Summer 2021 Update

We have made some changes to the programs that will be offered for the summer of 2021. To see a full list of available programs and up-to-date registration information, please visit the 2021 Updates section on our homepage.
This exciting summer experience is designed for students who have completed 3rd through 8th grades and who wish to explore and have fun learning several different modes of creative expression. This real-life art studio experience takes a project-based approach to art-making and includes a basic introduction to painting, drawing, sculpture and digital media. Participants will have the opportunity to learn creative software programs such as basic Photoshop and InDesign.

Our experiential approach to teaching is meant to foster invention and creative expression, and to encourage enjoyment of the process. Students will also explore specific artists and artworks throughout history, with outings to an art museum or gallery in each session. Each session will conclude with a community art show in our gallery spaces.

Campers in Running Brook Arts are divided into two different sections:  Intro to Arts is offered in one-week sessions and is for campers who have completed 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.  These exciting weeks are designed to offer a more introductory opportunity to explore different forms of expression.  Running Brook Arts are offered in two-week sessions for campers who have completed 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  These sessions offer a more intensive exploration of various art forms.  While there will be frequent opportunities for the Arts campers to interact with campers in our Day Camp program, the Arts camp is designed to be a distinct program where participants are immersed in a variety of art-based programming for the majority of each day.  There will be a time in the schedule for some free swim and some outdoor play, but participants should be prepared to really immerse themselves in the visual arts!

Sessions generally focus on a different theme, so participants are welcome to register for multiple sessions. A day at Running Brook Arts follows the same daily schedule as Running Brook Day Camp, with participants arriving at campus between 8:15-8:35 in the morning, and being dismissed between 3:45-4:00 in the afternoon. Both our Extended Day programs and our bus transportation options are available to Arts camp participants. Please see our Extended Day & Bus Service page for more details and for the list of bus stops.
Our senior Arts staff are experienced, graduate-level Art educators, with college art majors acting as assistants. Each session will have a maximum of 16 participants, working in small groups with a maximum participant-to-staff ratio of 8:1.

"Running Brook has been an amazing experience for our daughter. Starting at just 4 years old, she has not missed a summer and looks forward to each. Now 13, she is completing her first LTP session and loving it just as much as her first summer. We are grateful to the wonderful staff who put so much care and effort into engaging our daughter and enriching her life each summer."
