Our Young Leader group represents the third year of our Leadership Training Program, and is offered to individuals who have demonstrated competence in our core values - compassion, creativity, challenge, community, cooperation, and celebration - while at camp. Campers applying for this must have completed the Leadership Training Program. Young Leaders will partake in an intensive training experience by working closely with staff members and receiving support from the Leadership Team throughout the session.

Please note that this is not a paid position, but rather a volunteer opportunity in a camp setting. Many participants have used this experience as part of their school community service requirements.

Our Young Leaders Program

In order to be considered for the program, applicants must receive an invitation letter, submit an interest form to the Camp Office, and complete the staff application for the position of "Young Leader."

Please note that members of our Leadership Training Program must commit to four consecutive weeks of enrollment in order to be accepted.

Sessions 1 & 2 run from June 24 - July 19, 2024
Sessions 3 & 4 run from July 22 - August 16, 2024

Once accepted into the program, Young Leaders will complete same background check process as our full-time staff and are required to attend our staff training sessions prior to the start of camp. Young Leaders are not paid a salary for their work at camp. The experience is designed to mirror an internship experience.

During their time at camp, Young Leaders spend the majority of their time working with our campers in their groups. They may provide support in a group that needs an additional pair of hands, help with special event preparations, and / or assist one of our activity specialists. Our goal is to tailor the experience of each of our Young Leaders based on their strengths, areas of interest, and skill development.  We also incorporate mini training sessions with camp administrators on specific topics that are relevant to child development and the camp setting.

Participants who perform well as a Young Leader are among the first to be considered for full-time staff positions for the following summer.
