Weeks 4&5

“We Not Me!”
Hello families!

We’re now through the first five weeks of camp, and time is flying!  Our group has been working and playing hard in all kinds of activities, and teamwork has continued to be a major focus for everyone in the group.
Keeping busy: The last few weeks have provided group 10 with a variety of new challenges and opportunities for growth.  High ropes introduced us to the famous Running Brook Zipline experience, as well as the “Islands in the sky.”  The kids have truly been pushing themselves past their comfort zones while maneuvering these difficult elements.  In specials we have also been acting out stories in drama and experimenting with buoyancy in science.  We also have been playing all kinds of sports, like 3-ball soccer, floor hockey, and “kickerball.”  Throughout all of it, the encouragement our campers are showing for one another has been remarkable!
WE NOT ME!: Speaking of encouragement, one of the most important elements of our group’s culture is what we call “We not me!”  This is an idea that allows the kids to brainstorm and practice ways to make each other feel welcomed and respected at camp.  Whenever a counselor (or another camper) catches one of these acts of selflessness, the groups earns a “we not me.”  The group also yells “WE NOT ME” before every transition throughout the day to remind ourselves about our ongoing goal.  Each new day is a competition with ourselves to see if we can beat our own “we not me” record.  So far our high score is 29 “we not me” points in one day, and the kids are working hard to beat it again before the summer is over!
Looking forward to more amazing weeks!
